Although medical examinations using specialized equipment are expensive, there is a simple way to estimate lung capacity at home.


This test measures forced vital capacity (FVC), which is the maximum amount of air that can be expelled from the lungs after a deep breath.


To do this, simply use a large plastic bottle, water, a container filled with water, and a rubber hose. The steps are as follows:


1. Measure 200 milliliters of water using a measuring cup and pour it into the plastic bottle. Mark the water level with a pen or marker.


2. Add another 200 milliliters of water to the bottle and mark the water level again. Repeat this process until the bottle is full.


3. Fill a bucket or bathtub with water, then place the full bottle inside. Turn the bottle upside down so that it is submerged in the water.


4. With the hose in this position, insert the rubber hose into the mouth of the bottle. The hose does not need to be tightly closed.


5. Inhale as deeply as possible, then exhale through the tube.


6. Observe and count how much of the water mark is pushed out of the bottle by the exhale.


7. Multiply the number of marks passed by 200 milliliters. This calculation indicates your estimated vital capacity, known as the forced vital capacity (FVC).

However, the obstacle is saving and this can be a bit of a hassle. The reason is, bananas can bruise quickly, ripen too quickly, or not ripen fast enough if stored incorrectly.
